Violet returns to the war college while searching for a cure for Xaden, who is turning into a venin. She seeks help from a rare dragon breed, the irids, but is rejected. As war with the venin escalates, Violet faces tough choices, including letting her dragon Andarna go. In the end, she defeats a major enemy but loses her memory—and wakes up married to Xaden, who is now missing.
